What Missy Really Means by "The Lavender Lifestyle"

When I first started working at Pumpkin Blossom Farm almost 4 years ago now, it was certainly a learning curve to understand Missy's creative and chaotic mind. Now, as we're growing a "backyard business" inside her home, we're finally getting around to really explaining and establishing our core message and backstory, which got me thinking about writing this post. We're developing bigger projects, we're integrating ourselves into social media, and we're getting our word across...The refined version isn't quite there yet, which makes it all the more on brand for us (haha). So, when our tiny 3 piece team sits down and thinks about what we want to tell the world, here's what comes to mind.

The Lavender Lifestyle In A Nutshell
We love to promote the ideals of peace, wellbeing, and connection - whether that be to one's self, another human being, the land, etc. The farm was born in and of itself to be a space of refuge for those who need it - a healing garden. That's where our "Peace Love Lavender" and "Lavender Lifestyle" mantras were born. On paper, it can be beautiful, organized, and boiled down into a few words or a phrase that way. In real life...it's a little different. Here's what the Lavender Lifestyle means to PBFers.
Finding and Facilitating Joy
Let's not pretend that each and every day is a cake walk...Our jobs are wonderful and there's nothing we'd rather be doing... but s#*! goes wrong sometimes! We're a new farm and we're still working out the kinks, and there are apparently quite a few kinks to be worked out. We've sliced ourselves open with scythes, we've permanently deleted entire integral sections of our website, (sorry Missy!), we've broken countless tools, things fall apart (have I mentioned the house is hundreds of years old?!) and we forget things. Often. But we find the joys in it each and every day, even if there are only a few, and it helps us bring the joy to all of the others that come to visit us. The Lavender Lifestyle is choosing to see and acknowledge the positives in life, as it's sometimes very easy to get caught in a storm cloud... Lavender doesn't like to be overwatered. 😉
"Perfect" Is Not Your Friend
When I first started working with Missy, I had an idea in my mind that I had to do everything *perfectly* to create a solid foundation for the farm. It was when we were up in the field a few springs ago while we were pruning the plants that I realized that was not the case. As I meticulously sculpted the plant in front of me into a perfect little dome shape, I looked up and saw the other thousands of plants demanding our attention... A new (simpler) pruning method was born that day...Things have a way of falling into place and prioritizing themselves if you give yourself the headspace to look for it. Keeping your head down and focusing on details keeps you from seeing what really needs working on. Plus, doing a few things pretty well gets you a LOT farther than doing one thing perfectly. The Lavender Lifestyle is embracing the imperfections that come with growth, and staying present in the here and now.
Everything is Everywhere All The Time!
Abundance, Abundance, Abundance. It's our favorite, and it's out there. There is success, love, opportunities, wealth, etc.- enough for everyone. This mindset keeps our spirits up, our hearts grateful, and our souls hopeful. It creates a ripple effect as well, promoting collaboration over competetion, openness to new oppurtunites, and overall generosity. We hope to be a "girl's girl" of the lavender world by opening our doors for general admission/parking free of charge, offering educational content to our sister farms across the country, and taking the time to host various groups to educate and provide a little lavender sanctuary to those who need it. The Lavender Lifestyle is about giving what you can, and trusting that everything you need is out there waiting.
I could keep going - living intentionally, building community, prioritizing healthy, natural living, creation over consumption, self improvement and always growing, finding where you flourish, optimism, cyclic living, etc. There's a lot, which is why we encourage people to come to the farm to experience it for themselves, because as much as we try to explain it, sometimes the words get in the way of the feeling.
At the end of the day, the Lavender Lifestyle isn't just something we talk about to promote—it's something we live, breathe, and (sometimes chaotically) figure out as we go each and every day. It’s in the way we laugh through the mishaps, how we share what we’ve learned, and in the space we’ve built for others to come, unwind, and reconnect. It’s not about having everything perfectly in place—it’s about embracing the beauty in the mess, the growth in the unexpected, and the joy in the simplest of moments.
So, if you're wondering what it really means to live the Lavender Lifestyle, we invite you to step into it. Come wander through the fields, sip something lavender-infused, and take a deep breath. Feel it for yourself. We promise—it’s better than we could ever put into words. 💜
